 Search Tips

At TechTutorials.net, our goal is to make it easier to find the technical information that you are looking for. We monitor the keywords used in searches and do our best to make sure that we have what you are looking for.

There may be times that you may be unable to find the information that you are looking for even though it exists in the directory, so we have put together this list of search tips to help you find what you are looking for. Note that these tips will not only help you find what you are looking for in our directory, but in all search engines and directories. We figure that makes this another tutorial.
  1. If you are looking for certification information, links, practice exams, study guides, etc, follow the link on the left to certifications and you will be shuttled to MC MCSE, our certification site. Many of the tutorials in our index are useful for certification candidates, however, searching on certification keywords in this index will do little good.

  2. Spelling: Double-check your spelling. Believe it or not, this is a VERY common error that will prevent you from finding what you want in any search engine. If you are not entirely sure how to spell something, double-check it at Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary.

  3. Acronyms: If you are looking for a piece of information that has an acronym, try searching under the acronym as well as the full name. Example: VPN and Virtual Private Network. Search for it both ways.

  4. Plurals: Try searching for the singular version of a word first. Example: Try User Account instead of User Accounts. In this situation, any tutorial with the keywords "User Accounts" in the description will be returned. Note that this will not work on words in which the plural version takes on a different word structure than the singular. Example: Category is not a suitable replacement for Categories. In this situation, you should search on both versions of the word.

  5. Unnecessary words: If you are having a difficult time finding what you are looking for, try removing unnecessary words from your search such as how to, what, the, it, with, by, etc..

  6. Rephrasing: This is the most important of them all! Try rephrasing your search a couple of times. Example: If you are looking for information on Windows 2000 security, try Windows 2000 Security, Win2k security, win 2000 security, win2000 security, etc.. One more example: If you are looking for information on Installing windows 98, try variations such as Windows 98 installation, Installing Windows 98, Install Win98, etc..

  7. Advanced Search: The advanced search link will allow you to perform boolean searches with "and" and "or" connectors and choose whether you would like to search the keywords or select an exact phrase match.
As previously mentioned, we are proactively tracking searches to make sure that our visitors find what they look for. If you are still having difficulty finding what you are looking for, you can join our newsletter and be informed of new additions to the directory.
